Kite buggying - boarding: Minnis Bay Wind Direction: NW Wind Stength: 5-10mph Surf / Sea State: Air Temperature: 15 Sea Temperature: Weather: Sunny and warm Max Speed: 27.2 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 15.3 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
It was good friday and naff all wind forecast all weekend so I took a punt
and left home at 6am to catch an early tide as I have some new big kites I
have yet to use and a forecast 8knots onshore according to windguru was
more tempting than a lie-in (just!).
Arrived and setup the new 7.5m I have yet to play with, this is the biggest
kite I have ever flown, had a few runs in what must have been about 8mph
winds, as the beach is so narrow and the wind so light it was hard keeping
tension in the lines during turns so had a few luffs. One time it luffed
and crashed and landed in a big puddle, with no chance of getting it dry
enough to fly again in the marginal winds I got out the other new kite, my
new 5.5m. Was able to work this a bit more and got a top speed of 27.2mph
which is not bad considering that the wind never got up over 10mph so that
is quite a lot faster than the wind.
The wind died to around 5mph and it was very hard to keep the kite in the
air so I gave up and had an ice-cream in the sun before heading home.
The beach was quite busy with families from about 10am but was pretty empty
before that.
